December 29, 1944

Milan dear,

I am so excited and happy inside I don't know how to settle down. So much has happened in the past two weeks, even to the extent of making a bad slip, last evening about my new name. (I didn't recognize my own name and was trying to thank your mother for a gift). Did Carole and Ardis ever give me a laugh. I'll try to do better from now on ha!

Ruth had a lovely show for us. Wish you could have been there and we got so many nice things. Luncheon cloths, towels, bath rug set, $15 from Grandma (I hear $10 more is coming that will mean $75 from Grandma not bad). I guess she wanted to divide it up between shows and such. Next letter I'll give you a list of all the things we got- no pink elephants either- I had mentioned color schemes for the various rooms to Ruth- so all the kitchen things were in red and blue- towels were in rose and blue. That helps to have them match a little anyway. Ruth had some clever games I'll tell you about when I see you.

Last evening when I got home the folks informed me we were going down to see Margaret and "Johnnie", they had received a telegram saying she had sold the car and was coming through by train at 8 PM. We saw her a minute (5) so I guess Ray is on his way Eastward. He doesn't know she sold the car, some will surely get a good buy out of that car for it was surely up to par. Hope we can some day run into such luck. We probably can- guess Margaret hated to drive across country alone with "Johnnie".

Dear, you know when Carole and Ardis was waiting for us after the wedding, they had their car parked just west of the house down the road and watched us travel in and out of the house. Richard told them where the car was and had to get into the car and all he knew which was too much Honey. Did you feel the snow down your neck as we walked into the Kansan? Carole says they threw one. Carole is a card. Back at her old trick hasn't changed.

Oh yes, I find I can't get dental work here unless it is an emergency to be extracted or such. I guess he is too busy with the army fellows to take one of the wives.

Oh yes, honey, I will probably have some money to put in the checking account before coming to you. Like Grandma gift money, etc. Will I have any trouble getting it into the bank without the book?

Am on the way to the dentist, have run out of ink. Am on the way home, teeth fixed and all after having a time getting the air base bus.

I have the announcement ordered. Honey I'll send you some next week in case you care to send to any one I don't know of I ordered them from that place you mentioned.

I also have been up getting my name changed on the things at work. I did not get to talk with Lt. Mayo (the personnel officer) about the chance for a transfer. But it seems I won't be able to transfer unless there is a request for a job at your end. In case things look favorable to coming there. Some afternoon when you are off if you would drop into personnel office at your past and get the low down on jobs etc. You understand? Maybe it could be worked that way. I wished I'd shown you the letter from the Employment office they said "chances were good". I want to keep it and show it to Lt. Mayo tomorrow of course this is only with the possibility I come down there.

This is a mess I'll do better next time though. Goodness I miss you a "wee" bit or is it a lot. Yes, it is a lot

Loads of love and kisses
From your "wife" (doesn't it seem funny but its true. I love it)
