Jan 8th 1945

My dearest Wife,

Honey it certainly was wonderful to hear your voice once again and I don't mean perhaps. I was at the drug store and they couldn't make connections as NYC was busy but before I got to the USO Club they got it through and called me there. Hows that for service? Honey I hope you didn't mind paying for it as I only had $10 with me in cash. It isn't a good idea to carry very much money when one is moving around.

The C.H. Unit from Nashville is taking this base over which has been occupied by the Navy. The hospital is due to open up around the first of Feb. There wasn't any apts available yesterday but one can get rooms with kitchen privileges which would do in a pinch till we could get a place. There is a 3 room apt near by for $20 with everything furnished but it is heated with coal and only has the one kitchen stove otherwise it looks very homely I'd say. Seen the fellow in charge of Chamber of Commerce yesterday and he said he would have some more places either today or tomorrow so I'll have to call him up today and find out.

Darling I can't help but feel I'm here to stay as they only send up about ten medical techs and I'm sure there will be room for that many men. The hospital isn't very big but it will be enlarged. It certainly is quite a ways from home but the town is quite nice and reminds me of Manhattan a lot.

Here's hoping you can get your transfer through. I'm quite sure you'll be able to get a job on the post okay. You'll want some Ski pants, warm gloves, ear muffs, warm overshoes and socks. The cold isn't bad up here at all as long as one dresses up for it. I don't think it is as bad as at home for it stays cold here. There are a lot of winter sports here and a lot of things to do in the summer such as boat trips, fishing, picnics and sightseeing, etc.

Darling, I suppose I better close for now but here's hoping to see you soon but in the mean time I'll keep you informed and I'll be dreaming of you. Pleasant dreams honey.

Oceans of love and kisses,
Your loving husband
Milan

P.S. The post is about a mile from the center of town right on the lake. All the buildings are brick construction with steam heat. A bus comes by camp every half an hour. One can walk to town just about as fast. Two nice show houses in town and one which seats 550 on the post. Also have an USO in town, Service Club on the post and use the Gym for dances I'm told. Pop. 13,000 in Plattsburg has teachers College. Tourist town. So long for now.
