October 26, 1944

Dear Milan,

Goodness that storm sounded pretty bad, I am wondering, is it a safe place to be? To say the least it helps keep things from becoming dull, or does it. I bet your folks were concerned, they can't help wondering if things are o.k.

I remember one day while working on the line at the air base a couple years ago there blew up a terrible storm here in the spring all the fellows had heard it was to be a terrible tornado, they canceled all passes, tied all the planes to the ground, many of the fellows called their wives to rush to the basements to their homes they were frightened and then were they ever surprised to find it was so mild.

But by the paper it was no joking matter, it would be exciting to say the least not knowing what to expect. The war seems to be coming along nicely up to present, but I wonder if it will always continue to be just that easy with the Japs?

So Alfred Bates is in Germany, what kind of work is he doing and his rank? Do you ever hear where Dayton is? Wasn't he in England when you were? Incidentally just how long were you ever seas? That is an excellent place to have your picture in a scrap book, I am surely looking forward to your coming home.

I was busier then a bee yesterday afternoon. Alice, my boss, was gone. The two of us are kept busy all the time, she will be gone for two weeks the first of Nov. However there will be another woman to help out but she has her own job too. It is the first office job I have ever had that seems more like playing a game then actually working. there are so many different things to it, It's the voucher section of the Engines B-24 and a few B-29 and the girls are so nice.

We just about have Marilyn King married, her sister Margaret is flying home today (Saturday is the big day). There is a USO formal that evening too.

Incidentally I received an answer about a job in the Tampa Shipbuilding Co, they are hiring women and also at the same wage as I was getting on the west coast. Velma the girl from Calif. has found I can still come and get my job there in L.A. so I've found I can still be assured of a job one or the other end of the country. I don't know but what I prefer welding to office work for one is working out of doors and doing physical exercise, incidentally when is the rainy season in Florida? The winter months is the time in Calif., but it isn't bad.

Do you like Chinese food? I love it, Alice and I are going to the Jolly and having chow mein. However that dish was originated in this country, I enjoy it all my self. I see by the map of Tampa there is a Spanish Cafe, have you tried any of it?

Oh yes we have been having some wonderful weather the past several weeks, up to then I had almost forgotten how nice it could be here. It can't last long though.

I must close for lunch period is nearly over and we are very busy, until I hear from you I remain

As ever,
Kathleen

Oct. is nearly over and I'm hoping Nov. blows in and out. Dec. can't come fast enough for me huh.
